The last widow of a Confederate soldier, Alberta S. Martin died in May 2004. She was born in 1906 and married the former Confederate soldier William Martin who had been born in 1845 in 1927. When he died in 1931 she married his grandson.

The marriage was initially arranged to obtain and prepetuate the $50 dollar monthly pension. However Alberta did have one son with William.
