Someone unfortunate enough to be just inside the event horizon of a black hole would see the universe looking perfectly normal. Hostile - lots of really bad radiation rushing inward - but otherwise normal. From the
outside. the event horizon is a bizarre interface where in-falling material seems to get "stuck," slowly disintegrating until it can no longer be seen. From the point of view of an object falling in, there is no obvious difference between being on one side or the other (until said object attempts to exit the vicinity, of course).
