Your photo shows the Moon a bit past first quarter, hence much too far from the Sun for your mystery object to be Venus. If this was taken the last time the Moon showed that phase, then your mystery object is probably Jupiter. Jupiter is still in about the same place, clearly visible to the south just after sunset, parked in Scorpius right above Antares.
