Of course the truth is that hoax theorists only come up with their implausible explanations because they are attention seekers and crave the possibility that people will listen to, and believe them. The best way to silence them is to pay no attention at all and then, like a tiresome child, they will get bored and go away. It is, of course, entirely possible that we, in an attempt to debunk them are, by the very nature of this forum, perpetuating them.
