I don't want to sound insensitive, because I do sympathize.
Unfortunately in this "just in time inventory" world, a supplier needs to be diversified to ride out this kind of issue. If your business is completely reliant on one company, you're hands are tied by that company.
It sounds like your wife's company probably makes good money off of GM and doesn't need to branch out (except in this case). I see too many companies dropping lower profit lines due to greed, and then whine because the remaining line's industry/customer is flailing. (maybe not too many... But I see it where I work)
