It's nothing to feel stupid about. Actually, the human brain is very good at ignoring typos, because we naturally guess what something really is and ignore problems. That's why it takes training to be a proofreader. In fact, some proofreaders will actually read a manuscript
backwards, from back to front, to ensure that they are looking at the words without the context, which can fool them.
