Not really. When my older brother was younger--as in kids age, he knew that smoking was bad. We were both bothered by the fact that one of my older, adult cousins smoked (at the time, doesn't anymore). Yet my brother grew up and now smokes. Did he forget? No. Does he wish he was dead? No. He just smokes. Why? I don't know.
