man on the moon, you're totally on the right track there. I'd go so far as to say that many people who use English as their second language are actually better speakers than natives. Once they've pinned down some of the more esoteric vocabulary, they're much better at using words that mean what they're saying than native speakers who think almost wholly with connotation than the actual meaning of the words they're using.
