Yes. Maksutov-Cassegrains are renowned for high image quality and spectacular planetary imaging. Their field is somewhat narrow for deep sky, but it will still work very well. I don't think the mount will be a problem. The Synta EQ-3 looks pretty sturdy. You will need a motor drive, though.

What kind of 80mm refractor did you have before?
