I've got a 10" Dobsonian that I haven't used in many years along with several adapters for attaching the Nikon but I've never tried it. I've decided that I've had this on the back burner for too many years now and I'd like to start taking some decent images. Sounds like an equitorial mount is the way to go. Lot of reading to do...
