I wonder how "crashed UFO" became "alien encounters."
The article looks to me like the standard attempt to make something out of nothing on a slow news day. The principal informant to the story seems to be the local MUFON guy, who is obviously groping for credibility -- "I'm not a crackpot; really I'm not. Normal people talk to me." Despite his claims that professionals must now be taking UFOs seriously, the actual firefighters say they don't train on the UFO scenario and the authors say the UFO enthusiasts are missing their point.
The only excerpt from the chapter appears to prepare the firefighter for the possibility that some unexpected event may render his radio, generators, and vehicles inoperative. Those are good things to prepare for, and have nothing to do with little gray men.
