From the very limited information available, it does seem to me like they threw in the "alien spaceship made my electrical system quit" cliche. But we shouldn't weight their opinions on UFOs any more than any other members of the general public. I for one have had hundreds of hours of training, and none of it covered UFOs.

As to the general question in the OP, there's no convincing evidence that we've been visited by spacecraft of extraterrestrial origin. I'd love for it to happen, though - assuming they are friendly, or at least amenable to thermonuclear reasoning.
