It's finally official. 2012 is The End.
Here's how I know.
Electronic circuit component makers mark their parts with a date-of-manufacture code, generally the month and year. For the smallest surface-mount devices there isn't enough room for four digits, so a letter is used to represent the year, and a digit or letter for the month (months 10, 11, and 12 are O, N, and D respectively).
The year codes run from 1998, which is J, through 2009, which is W (skipping O and Q). Now, if you follow that pattern to its conclusion, you get X, Y and Z for 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively.
And that's it. Obviously, 2012 is the last year in which electronic components will be manufactured. Diodes, Inc. must have the "inside scoop" on the End of the World. The convergence of evidence is complete and unassailable.
