Advice needed

I want to purchase the Philips - SPC900NC Webcam CCD with AV-900NC 1.25"Adapter, but I am just starting out with astrophotography, I am currently using a DSLR Canon 300D, should I see how it goes with the camera first, or should I jump straight into the webcam as well. Any advice with experience with this is appreciated
