Default Artificial magnetic sheilding, it it possible?

Hypothetically, if one was to place a space station outside of the influence of the earths magnetic field, would it be possible to create a magnetic shield around the space station that would simulate the protection earths magnetic shield provides? What are the power requirements for something like that? Is it something that could be possible if the station had a nuclear reactor on board?
