Default Equipment for planetary imaging

I have an old C8 and I would like to take pictures of planets. I have a t-adapter and tele-adapter for my digital SLR, but now I think those were just a waste of money compared to what I've seen done with webcams and processing. I even found a very dramatic example in a pre-web-cam-era newsletter that I should get around to scanning and posting...

Anyway, what should I use? Should a buy an official setup, or hack my own imager out of a better web cam?

What do I need in addition to the imager? I know I'll need some sort of barlow lens, or powermate (I think?) as some other website said. Which type? What power?

Thanks in advance.
