I could tell it was a three-dimensional object caught under the fastener, but I used the long lens to help identify it. It looks like a piece of feather from a feather duster. I don't have a better explanation, but I can be as certain as possible that it's not a fault in the material.

That's not to say LM-2 doesn't have flaws in its material. It's really in bad shape since the last time I saw it. But it looks like the flaws are not flaws in construction but rather subsequent damage.
