Default Films like oil paintings?

There are a few films I will watch again and
again when the come round on the box. They are
like warm comforting blankets for a while with
no surprises.

Twelve Angry Men. The development of the story
and how each actor has a Big part keeps this
watchable.

Rope. The terrible act preceding a civilised
party, the light fading into sunset outside,
the continuous 10 minute takes (with one
exception, a reaction shot of James Stewart).

Dial M for Murder. Very cosy and civilised and
the villain getting done by Grace. Sure it was
Hitchcock who speaks the word "Guilty".

All the Presidents men. The scenes of
Washington, the erie machinery noise at night
in quiet car parks, the music, and the
developing story told unhurridly.

And a few others.
