It's not at all arrogant to apply one's legitimate expertise, knowledge, and experience. Arrogance is to be confident without that knowledge.

The Planet X claims are not vague, abstract fears about the ability of nature to affect the human race. They are specific, testable claims that simply fail the test. When the results of those tests are presented to the claimants, they simply offer speculative excuses for why the test was invalid, or why the magical properties of their claims should elude all meaningful tests.

I know tigers can kill people. Hence, in general, it's wise to beware tigers. But if someone tells me there's a tiger in the back seat of my car, it's neither arrogant nor misleading to actually look in the car, fail to see a tiger, and dismiss the claim. It really is that simple. There is a difference between wariness and doomsaying.
