You are right (in a way). It is possible, for example, that a giant meteor could hit the Earth (though we would probably know months or years in advance) and wipe out human civilization (a dinosaur killer type event). I suspect, given current technology, that we would easily predict it, but we might not be able to stop it (there are ideas, but they are untested). If you search around this board you'll find lots of discussions about all the technical issues involved (and beside from an occassional joke, you will see very little laughing about it).

As others point out, the claims that have been made about Planet X do not fall into this kind of category and can be (and have been) tested and found to not to be true.

Do you have other ideas about how the Earth could be destroyed? Or is it just some undefined fear along the lines of something bad could happen and we don't know what?

Ok, so now what? Are you planing to live the rest of your life in continous fear of some extremely low probability world ending event? What would you like the rest of us to do about it?
