Here is a cliche I hate:
"Drop the gun, and nobody will get hurt!"
Almost always addressed at someone who clearly WANTS to hurt people. Always struck me as the worst incentive possible.
"Drop the gun, and YOU won't get hurt!" seems somewhat more productive. But no good guy in the movies ever uses that one.
Also, "getting hurt" somehow became a euphemism for "dying or getting mutilated in nasty ways". Had anyone else noticed that?
