Harried family forgets tot in Vancouver airport

Quote:
Jun Parreno, the boy's father, told The Vancouver Sun the mix-up occurred Monday as he, his wife and two grandparents of the child, J.M., were scrambling between their arrival in Canada and a connecting flight to Winnipeg on Air Canada.
Ok; multiple caretakers and a game of who's got the kid. That part is understandable.
What I don't understand is this. The last person didn't watch people leave or check if everyone did. Ok; maybe that can slip, but...
When they arrived at the plane, nobody stopped at the door and thought "are we all here", or event thought that before sitting down.

Sounds like "run for your lives, everyone fend for yourselves, you're on your own, don't count on me to help."
