Yes, it makes sense that it could have happened long in the past. I can't imagine it being due to CO2 in liquid form, as the atmospheric pressure isn't high enough to enable that phase. But perhaps as it and water form frost in extant cracks they exert pressure to make the cracks expand even further, similar to how it happens with liquid water freezing to ice in our polar regions.
But I'm having trouble imaging that the deposition or growth of CO2 frost is a viable mechanism for reshaping the ground. I'm sure someone has an answer, but I'm too tired to search now. . . .
