I was reading some more, and apparently there's some controversy over whether or not the ants are actually attracted to electric fields. One theory is that a foraging worker randomly enters electrical equipment and manages to get shocked. When he does, he tries to sting what hurt him and releases "alarm" phermones. These chemicals call the other ants to deal with the threat.

I don't know if this has been resolved yet or not.
