You guys are overlooking the obvious here, why not let NASA use mosquitoes as the lifting mechanism. Follow me here, you get e few billion mosquitoes, have sophisticated wirering mechanism, tie them to the Shuttle and bam lift off (admittedly this will only get you say about 10m above ground, nevertheless this will be a substantial saving in the fuel). Can someone calculate fuel/meter consumption of the Shuttle.
