And nobody's bothered to calculate the value of the Earth.
OK, let's just worry about money, and none of those intangibles--like life--that we earn our money for.
I found a reference that the total number of financial assets (stocks and bonds and such) in the world's markets as of 2005 is about $140 trillion USD. So let's just call it $10
14 as our starting figure. And let's assume that the world economy grows at a mere 2% per year. How long shall we extend our analysis.
Neverfly says we'll probably get hit by a gamma ray burst within 100,000 years, but
cjameshuff is personally concerned to see that we make it to 1,000,000,000 years.
However, I'll just call it 10,000 years. Why? Because that's all my calculator can handle. So, here's our equation to project total value in 10,000 years:
Total value of the Earth = $1014 x 1.0210,000 = $10100 USD
Does anyone understand where I'm going with this?
