About the NaNoWriMo site - It's SLOOOWWWW....

I joined, though, same username as here. Thanks, jokergirl! When I first read this thread, I didn't know what to think, but when I got to the site, it was, "Oh! This is a month-long write your novel website!

One word of caution - I wouldn't write your choice novel, the one you've always been meaning to publish, here, as it's public and no telling who'll pick it up and claim it as theirs. You don't see any of Clancy's novels online...

Actually, there's no need at all to put your novel on that site. You can scramble and upload it for an official wordcount (replace all letters with "a" for example - there's a howto on the site for it) or just put in the wordcount from your preferred word processor and let them take your word for it. You're doing it for yourself, after all.
