Something
does show up. Satellites can be seen with the unaided eye. They look like moving stars. The Iridium satellites are expecially spectacular, often outshining everything in the sky and visible even in daylight. Rocks can be seen if you have a telescope, though they look like nothing more than points of light. The things that show up are tiny and very VERY widely spaced. That's why the sky is so dark. The Moon is thousands of kilometres across but hundreds of thousands of kilometres away, so it seem quiter small. Venus is thousands of kilometres across and millions of kilometres away, and even among the asteroids there is not a lot closer to us than Venus gets.
It's all about scale. There is trillions of tons of matter out there, but it is spread over vast VAST volumes of space.

pics often seem air brushed or not real.

Do you have any specific examples of pics you find suspect? And by what criteris do you assess their 'not real' appearance? Are you willing to accept your own preconceptions may be in error?

How very very sad. I guess we should discount creativity, engineering, medicine etc.
