As djellison said a few posts ago, it looks exactly like the layered rock that Opportunity has found all over the place, especially in the craters it has examined. This sort of rock was found very, very soon after the rover exited the lander, in
Eagle Crater.
The only difference between this piece of rock, and the bits right next to it, is the lesser amount of loose soil that is on it. It's just exposed a bit more. Why? Who knows. Maybe a few mounds channeled prevailing winds so more blew away there. Maybe it's inclined a bit more so dust won't stay on it.
