For those who haven't read the book:

The Rare Earth Hypothesis tries to explain that while LIFE may well be everywhere in the universe, complex life is extremely rare. Note the distinction between complex and intelligent. They are making a bolder claim. They support this hypothesis very well, IMO.

I have not read the other book, but wether I do or not depends on who wrote it. If it is not written by scientists I'm not interested.
