In addition to my curiosity about crop circles, I'm thinking of getting a GPS unit to help plan the grading of my yard.
Search for ‘differential GPS explained’ on Google. The 10 meter error is the absolute error the relative error is less than 1 meter. And if you do your work in a short amount of time; without a major change in atmosphere you would probably have a relative error of less than 30 cm.

There is nothing I know of in the GPS system that would end up giving you some kind of pattern.

As far as using a GPS to create crop circles; it would be a major task. As Nowhere Man say’s; some rope, pegs, boards and a good plan would be faster and easier.
