If space expanded at the rate and in the manner described, we would notice all kinds of odd effects, and wouldn't have the odd effects we notice now. Ergo, the theory is nonsense, as there's plenty of counter-evidence.

Jupiter's spot = perfectly normal. Simple mathematical models of gas giants which don't deal with expansion at all create them all the time.
