What are his sources? Which astronomers is he talking about? And he has the process backwards - as far as I know, stars can't heat up like that.

I've seen this claim before, I'll have to look it up. I believe the claim is the Egyptians stated that Sirus was red. If I recall correctly there were two explanations for this, One- it was a mistranslation, or Two- Sirius past through a dust cloud making it red.
I'll have to dig out some books. I've never heard the claim that "numerous" ancient astronomers said that, only the Egyptians. We don't have all that many records that go back "thousands" of years...
