As others already pointed out, cutting Hubble is entirely consistent with Bush space vision. It is NOT about science, but about human expansion into solar system. For that matter, manned spaceflight was NEVER about science. First it was about beating the Soviets to the Moon, and after 1972 it was about... circular self-justification. At least Bush is breaking that circle.
