Actually, it looks like IDW went from adamently claiming the engines could never fire because they'd melt (and thus all the missions were faked) pre-Jay to claiming that, for some reason, they sent the landers to the moon and faked the relay post-Jay.
And, of course, he does this while maintaining that he didn't change his tune. It may have changed again, I stopped reading at page 6.
Now I have to go wash my eyes. This breaks my promise to never read GLP again. ugh.
