Sadly, this article is full of misinformation and half-truths as well as just being full of....well, you know.
Quote:
but a Deep Impact mission is underway, with a NASA spacecraft loaded with explosives scheduled to collide with the Tempel-1 comet on July 4 and blast it to smithereens.
No explosives on board and the comet won't be blasted to smithereens.
Quote:
NASA successfully launched its Deep Impact spacecraft — comprised of a “fly-by” spacecraft and a smaller “impactor” carrying some 350 kilograms of a copper-based explosive —
Copper based explosive??? Can I have some? Try "the copper impactor will be released and comet Tempel-1 will run into it at a high rate of speed. Possibly creating a crater as large as a stadium (depending on the comet's actual makeup)
And another:
Quote:
the consequences of destroying a comet may include anything from an asteroid shower to disruption to radio waves.
Huh???
Quote:
“I am not a scientist,” Molokhov says,
Truest statement in the article.
Quote:
“but experts say the impact could disrupt the comet’s plasma trail, which could have an effect on satellite communications.”
Would an "expert" really say that???
This is my first post. Sorry all for being long-winded about this but I just had to get it off my chest. Frivalty seems to be a world-wide epidemic.
