The more I think about this issue, the more irrate I become. This is exactly what BA is using his time and resources for this website to fight. I feel the average person will read that news article and take the information in it at face value. They won't go to NASA's website or dig for the truth anywhere. They will think "what if something DOES happen?" "What if chunks of comet fall from the sky?" "Maybe our tax money is better spent elsewhere than blowing up stuff in the sky?"
How much money is allocated in NASA's budget to fight frivilous lawsuits? Zero? If so, what projects will have money taken away to fight these? Were will it end? Will we see the Hoagland's and Leider's of the world filing suit against science to write the world as they see it? Will Nasa's future projects be decided by who gets offended the least? Or worse, decided by the courts instead of scientists?
I thought this issue was funny when I first read it, but in a way, it scares me. I hope intelligence wins out over nonsense.
I'm sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. My apologies to all for my rantings.
