OK. I gotta ask.
You said in a previous message that Big'un was at the helm when you handed him a cup of coffee during a typhoon. Later in the message, you say that young'un was washed over the side.
Was young'un recovered from being in the sea?
You mention atomic veterans. Since I used to work for the VA, I am familiar with atomic veterans. Atomic veterans were those men who were accidentally or purposefully exposed to atomic fallout as part of atomic testing. I was only aware of two incidents of this occurring. One occurred at the Nevada test site where a platoon were marched into the fallout area to test the effect of radiation on servicemen. The second was in Tennessee where atomic fallout was dumped on rural areas to test the effect on civilians.
From what I have been able to get, Shanti was 7000 yds from the blast. (figured from the account of SSK Bonita, resting on the bottom 5000 yds from the bouy that the sub-surface burst weapon was suspended from and the account from a Shanti damage controlman who placed the Bonita 2000 yds closer to the blast than the Shanti.)
Blast was Wahoo (alledged yield was 9 kt).
Have I missed anything other than the diesel fuel showers?
