According to the lore, the "thing" that crashed into Shag Harbour left of it's own power underwater and "got away" after a few days. An argument can be made that there was a behind the scenes Cold War drama involving the recovery of a fallen Soviet or US device and the "thing" that made it back out into open seas was an American or Soviet sub. If something like that happened, and it's more credible than ET with engine trouble IMO, we'll never hear the whole story. So outside of skeptical and non-skeptical speculation we'll never really know. UFO promoters make the mistake of spinning anecdotal recall of the surviving witnesses to suit their version and once again we are treated to a common tack employed by UFO promoters .. a tantalizing glimpse into government/military cover-ups they could only uncover, but when called upon to provide hard evidence: uh, they can't. Why? Uh, that part is still being "covered-up." This "missing link" syndrome is a common thread in the fabric of all such ufological lore. (See Roswell, Kecksburg)
