A brief note: Sinus Meridiani was originally christened as "Dawes Forked Bay". That name was dropped in favor of "Meridian Bay", by the German astronomer Joahann Maedler, after choosing it as the origin of areographic longitudes. The Latin form was first adopted by E.M. Antoniadi.
