Alright the board is brand new, but if you want to get more out of it, you can change a few settings. These allow for formatting and thus smilies.

To do this go to UserCP> Edit Options (in toolbar on left) > Message Editor Interface (bottom of page) > Enhanced Interface (in drop down menu) > Save changes.

So I can make my text bold and italic. Change color
