Hi, I'm Steve from the BABB. While I wasn't active on the UT bulletin board, I do have Mr. Cain's excellent site bookmarked and it's one of those sites that I check out on a daily basis. I look forward to interacting with the UT regulars.

I joined Dr. Plait's Bad Astronomy Bulletin Board the morning after listening to him "debate" the fear-mongering Nancy Lieder who claimed that a rogue planet was inbound with catastrophic results for this planet. I was impressed with the Bad Astronomer's performance as he thrashed someone who didn't have to rely on reality and joined the following morning. My initial motivation was to help the BABB regulars reassure those who were anxious about Lieder's Planet X but I soon found myself addressing other facets of pseudoscience as well. As a former believer in things like flying saucers, the Bermuda Triangle and other woo, I strive to convey critical thinking when these various subjects come up and you'll find me more often or not in those type of discussions. Prior to the debate I was (and still am) a frequent visitor to the Bad Astronomy main site and recommend those here who haven't to check it out.
