Hum,
Well that used to be the popular way of looking at it...
But by crossing the (fuzzy) event horizon you are instantly at the centre.
There is no distance between the `singularity` and the event horizon.
What we see is an unravelling of hidden curled up dimensions (or shrinking of our normal 3d+1 space time if you like) and we find ourselves in a 10 dimensional space-time.
Unfortunately this is where my knowledge ends.
