That's a very interesting summary, Sam5. It sounds like there is actually two levels of uncertainty when talking about GR: one is simply, what does GR say in the modern interpretation, and the second is, what did Einstein believe and when. I think there is a lot of uncertainty in both these questions, except among the real experts!
