There's no evidence that our Sun has experienced any mini-explosions or massive flares. If it had, there would almost certainly be some sign of it in the geological record, and we haven't found any such signs.

Life has been around for a very long time -- nearly as long as the Earth has existed -- and hasn't been wiped out yet. So I think it's safe to stop worrying (about that, at least).
