Its true that at some games you go to a fight and a hockey game nearly breaks out but a good game of hockey in the NHL or many other national/regional leagues can have it all. Speed, power, channelled (and sometimes not so channelled) aggression,skill...the lot basically.

Traditionally, it is THE winter sport for the northern bit of the Eastern Seaboard and the Great Lakes area. Testing my memory here, but I believe the original 6 teams were Boston, New York, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago, and Toronto. (Or was it another place instead of Toronto - maybe Philly or Minnesota?).

Those are the original six teams though curiously they werent the first 6 NHL teams despite the title. There werent even 6 teams to begin with there were only 5. The Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, and Toronto Arenas though the Bulldogs fell apart financially before the season started and the wanderers arena burnt down forcing an end to their season. So the first NHL season finished with only 3 teams only two of whom are in 'the original six'
