Sounded very dramatic and would make a cool scene in a flim. I imagine however that more damage would be done to the earth by the tidal effect of this objects gravity. Earth would be torn to pieces by the changing forces of gravity it would be subjected to as this object approached and eventually struck, which of course would be the final blow and probably shatter the planet.

Anyone else fancy doing the maths......?
