INSTALL reports it cannot find ????? database

my search for a defination1 reviels that MySQL
should be ?" DATABASE "? and it should be in /var/lib/mysql

its not there so i try to find my* & My* using Unix find . -name
What a Joke. page after page = hour after hour {access denighed}

I was never able to find MySQL.. perhaps theres another database
at PSU for it appears there can be others
