Gros, fem. grosse, is Anglo-Norman for big.
Teste is Anglo-Norman for head.

Robert Grosseteste (1168 - 1253), a member of the then Catholic english clergy, made aninteresting, if historically rather indirect contribution to Astronomy: You might say he invented the telescope. See here.
