Is a container of places a place?
I think you go to a chair in front of a computer and view images on your screen. The information providing those images is in a certain place. It is transported via airwaves or hard connection to other places; the computer in front of which you sit being one of them.

It really is that simple, but isn't nearly as glitzy as marketing "cyberspace" or "virtual reality" or whatever funky misleading over-hyped terms can be devised to make "sitting in front of my computer" seem way over-the-top cool.
